‘SCHOOLS BUILD-A-PLANE’ PROJECT
OLIVER VASS
PROGRAMME INTRO
The “Schools Build-A-Plane Challenge” is an ambitious, innovative and exciting project that was initiated by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and its sponsors Boeing UK with the assistance of the Light Aircraft Association (LAA) to engage school pupils in providing young people in secondary schools to gain hands-on experience of the aircraft build process and the wider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) subjects to encourage them in a career in the aerospace industry.
The schools have been involved in numerous events to promote their successes including the Farnborough Air Show, RIAT, Big Bang Science and Engineering Fair etc. In addition to develop their STEM knowledge and skills, the project allowed students to develop soft skills that employers are also actively seeking such as teamwork, communication and project management.
Having been part of the “SBAP Challenge”, our speaker Oliver Vass will be talking about his first-hand experiences of building a two seater light aircraft in a school. He will review the many opportunities that he has received within the project and will speak about his views on why the aviation industry is so important for young people to aspire and to be involved in.

NOTE FOR REGISTRATION
Thanks for registering your attendance via our Eventzilla site.
We have streamlined our event registration process by introducing online booking platform as an alternative to email and telephone registeration for our lectures/events, as well as developing a way of tracking numbers on any lectures/events that may be oversubscribed.
When you book, please select the relevant ticket option, and the number of tickets you would like. The tickets will be automatically emailed to you, as there is currently no option for us to produce a ticket at the door.
The application asks for both registration and attendee details - even if there is only one person on the booking, you must fill in all fields. If you are reserving more than one ticket please ensure you enter the name of all attendees so they are reflected on the attendee list.
If there is any problem incurred during the registration process, or if there's anything we can improve on this tool, please contact the Branch Secretary –
